We don't have confirmation of what the temperature actually got down to last night, but when we got up at 7 a.m., it was 34 degrees. There was still frost on the ground up behind the house, although I don't think any of the plants around the house were touched. But of course, we had the woodstove at the ready and the storm windows up.
However, the winter clothes are still in storage, because we played hooky yesterday and went hiking (as well as we could while dodging small-game hunters, that is) with the dogs instead of staying home and attending to our chores.
I know. We're such rebels.

Hmmm... I live in Texas. 1) winter clothes usually don't come out till December... And even then, only b/c I miss the 3 sweaters I own. 2) nothing signifies the changing of the seasons here like moving your flip flops (which you can wear about 10 months out of the year) to the back of the closet and high heeled boots to the front. 3) everyone complained of the unseasonably cold weather yesterday. Our low was 54 degrees. Happy Fall (or "winter" in some parts).
Yeah we ended up chasing small game ourselves yesterday instead of bringing out the winter clothes- and today it is snowing. Drat!
I am totally unprepared for the cold weather when it comes to dressing the baby. Am I supposed to put shoes on her? Even though she's not walking yet? WHY DON'T THEY TELL YOU THESE THINGS IN THE HOSPITAL?!
I love those days of not doing chores and doing something fun instead!
It was cold here when I woke up this morning. We're holding off on turning on the furnace as long as possible.
Heater had to be turned on here in Northern Texas this weekend. We had unseasonably cold weather. Our weather changes so much that I don't bother with summer or winter clothes being put away. When you leave in the morning it could be 34and snowing and by lunch 62 degrees. Glad you had a day doing something fun.

Enjoy being outside while you can. I must make sure my car has an ice scraper in it. I usually keep one in it all year, but last year Hubs pulled it out for summer reason and I was caught out.
Here in the southern hemisphere, we're digging out the fans, stripping the heavy duvet off the bed in favour of light sheets, cleaning out the gutters, stocking up on ice cubes, and discovering that the air-con doesn't work. I find it so much fun to read about how others are preparing at this time of the year. :)
