Beach Weather

No, not here. It's definitely not beach weather here. It's huddle by the woodstove and swath yourself in four layers weather here. Still. And it will be for a long time to come.

And that's what makes me think of the beach. Because I wish to be on one, you see. This is incredibly stupid, as I am so emphatically not a Beach Person. I don't like sun, swimsuits, heat, or swimming in the ocean. Or sand. That's pretty annoying, too. But such is the effect of the dreary upstate New York late winter that around this time of year, I start to think longingly of beach-y places.

So, join me in my Beach Delusion, poppets! Where would you go right now if someone were to hand you a plane ticket good for anywhere with a beach?

I would go to Virgin Gorda. That is one of the British Virgin Islands. There is a place called the "Baths" I was there as a child. I still remember the warm sandy beaches and then going into the large rock caves and taking a dip in the cool ocean water inside the caves

Oh Hawaii, The Bahamas anywhere but here today that is warm. We are having a major weather event here in the Texas panhandle. 8-12 inches of snow expected today. I guess I should be happy at least my boss closed the office. I am with you Kristin we will be thinking of warmer places! At least you have your wood stove!

Oh, the Caribbean! I've never been, and this time of year, I can only imagine what it would be like to be on a nice warm beach.

The MOUNTAINS. Almost any mountain. Alaska. No beach. I grew up near the beach and have had enough to last me . . . But if you're giving away free tickets, then definitely a ticket to Nepal . . . the Himalayas . . .

Greece ... Sicily ... Sardinia ... Pretty much anywhere on the north shore of the Mediterranean. Laze on the beach all day, then throw on a shirt and sandals and walk into a beach-side cafe for dinner.

I'd pack a bag in five minutes and head straight to Belize. Then I would swim, scuba dive in the blue hole, fly fish for bonefish on the flats, and swing in a hammock...can you tell that it is 4 degrees here today? I've been daydreaming of a warm beach for months now.

La Paz Mexico. I would take a leisurely walk on the malecon (boardwalk), then buy some yummy fish tacos from one of the stands and eat them as I watched the sun set over the water.

Sanibel Island in Florida. It has the best shelling in the world, beautiful weather and I haven't been there in a few years. Bonus points because it's only a three hour flight.

Grand Bahama, Oh yes! Maui is closer to me, so would the plane fare be cheaper?

Kauai. Princeville, specifically.

Not that I've been planning pretend vacations online or anything...

Even in Sunny CA we get nostalgic for beach time when it's been raining for 7 days straight. Ugh.

I'm not a beach person. I don't like heat, so I'll chose the Oregon beaches because it's usually cool there.

Just give me some sunshine. I don't care if it's only 10 above. Oh, wait, we have both those things today. I don't need to go anyway.

By the way, shortly you will be going, not to the beach, but to the hospital to have the man-cub. Are we going to be able to rely on A or the MiL to give us updates?

Easy, Santa Barbara, on the California coast, a little cottage in cold weather with a huge fireplace and a good book. Towel and suit not required. I live in sunny So Calif so I love cold, grey, rainy weather.

You probably really DON'T want to know that as I am typing this, I am staring out the window directly watching the ocean waves as they gently break against the sand. Sorry. We're in Florida right now for our annual let's-escape-winter February getaway. The highs are in the low-70s and very sunny.
So....I'll stay right here.
Sorry.

Finny, 7 days? Oh boo-freakin-hoo. "Cold, gray and rainy" pretty much sums up February through late-April in Cleveland.

The only reason we saw any sun today was that yesterday got so cold that the clouds froze and fell on us. Four more inches, yay. :-(

Ft. Walton, Florida. Luckiest little fishing village in the world. :)

Tough to choose; I'm such a Northerner. Maybe something unique like the Florida Keys, something totally unlike my frozen home.

How about Australia beaches. Never been and it sounds so cool ya know.

They all sound wonderful. The only beach I have been to is the great lakes beaches and they might be a tad on the frozen side right now. So, if I would choose I would pic Tammra's cottage and fireplace..surely the sun would come out sometime while I was there. :) Beth
