We used to play a game sometimes when I was younger called "Never Have I Ever." The idea was to come up with things that were common, but that you had never done. I think of this game sometimes when I'm reading about other people's lives online and realize how odd my own life is in comparison.
For instance, never have I ever . . .
Ordered groceries online. I suppose it would be possible for me to do this at the Walmart I go to. I see the shoppers racing around in there with their giant racks, and I think they'll even load them into the car for you. I just have never done it. Given the amount of complaining I see online about grocery substitutions or subpar produce choices, it is not something I will ever choose to do as long as I am able to shop for myself.
Used an Uber. The first time I ever heard of Uber was about ten years ago when my brother mentioned it. He was somewhat incredulous that I had no idea what an Uber was. We were sitting on the porch at Blackrock at the time, so I just waved my hand around and said something like, "You think that would exist out here?" I have still never lived anywhere where it might be an option.
Paid for anything with my cell phone. Almost everyone at the state fair paid for things by waving their phone in front of those little boxes they hand out of the window. I don't have any apps for payment on my phone.
Read a book on an electronic device. I read things on my laptop, but only short things. I have no interest in reading a full-length book on a screen. As you can tell by the numerous bookcases in my home.
Bought a frozen pizza. I guess I have nothing against frozen pizzas in particular, except buying the number I would need for my family would take up a lot of space in the coolers I have to transport everything home in. Also, I never really think about buying frozen food at the grocery store. Except frozen strawberries and peas.
How about you? What have you never done that most people take for granted?
Weellll, I have purchased frozen pizza, although it never tastes as good as it looks on the box. I am back to baking my own. I don't do any of the other things you mentioned. :) Fancy coffee drinks seem to be quite popular...I have no desire to try these. I like my homemade black coffee.

I've never had Starbucks or equivalent. I don't Uber or anything. ( I took a taxi once!)
ReplyDeleteI can't figure out how to pay with my phone, so it's cash or charge the old fashioned way.
I never have had a manicure or pedicure from a professional. My toes do not need any attention drawn to them- my feet are study boats, not things of beauty.
I do shop online, but usually for shelf stable stuff ( crackers, shampoo, pull-ups, etc) and never fresh food.
I've never eaten Mexican food. Nor a pho restaurant. ( given the only restaurants I'll eat at are McDonald's or pizza, that's probably not a surprise.)
I've never run a road race. Or used a treadmill.
I have never owned a coffee pot. This baffled my mother; when I was registering for our wedding we did not have a coffee pot on our registry. I said neither DH nor I drink coffee, and she said, "What about guests?" and I said that's what instant was for. I went through a brief flirtation with a French press once upon a time, before I came to accept (sadly) that coffee and I are not meant to be friends. I love the smell and taste, but I value my sleep and brain more. Even decaf after a while causes issues. Sad!
ReplyDeleteI don't have payments set up on my phone either, nor have I ever done DoorDash or those takeout food delivery services. I see our neighbors getting those sometimes, but the cost doesn't make it very appealing.
I bought a frozen pizza once, it was a disappointment. Otherwise, I'm with you.
ReplyDeleteOur local bakery/ once weekly pizza shop sells a simple prebaked frozen version of their pizza (only cheese topping-- add your own extras) which cooks in 6 minutes at high heat and is delicious. All depends on what crust you start out with.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm pretty assimilated; I'm having a hard time thinking of typical things that I haven't done. The only thing I can think of is never drinking alcohol, not even a taste. I also do not drink coffee though I have tasted it before. I do drink soda :-)
ReplyDeleteI have an I-8 Apple Phone and I do not care! I’ve never tried to download coupons on it! At Target last week checking out, I used a paper coupon and the lady at the register told me they are not going to be accepting “ paper coupons” anymore.
ReplyDeleteI’ve never had a Starbucks Coffee or had a manicure! I have to pick out my own produce, so I’ve never ordered groceries online before either!
I also have never been on Tik Tok!
I've never used an Uber, never ordered Door Dash or Instacart. I do Walmart pick up once a month for household things, you can even order softener salt this way, cheaper than gas station and they load it which is handy for anyone with motility issues.
ReplyDeleteHaha Mobility. Nah keep motility, much funnier
