  2. So, this has nothing to do with the topic at hand (to the topic at hand: your tomatoes are a good two or three weeks ahead of ours, though those sun gold cherries are finally starting to overwhelm)but! ... Over at Jive Turkeyland? You TOTALLY got Huey Lewis (Louis?) stuck in my head! Damn you, Huey! [CC shakes fist futilely at the invisible jukebox.]

  4. Wow! I got my first tomato today. And that's about the only one that looks like it'll make it before we have a frost.

Any ideas on green tomato products?

  5. Oh, the green tomatoes. What to do with the green tomatoes? Well, first off, some of them will ripen on a windowsill slowly even if they're picked green, so long as they've at least STARTED to turn, meaning they're not that kind of whitish green but a darker green. As for the really green tomatoes, there is the ubiquitous fried green tomatoes, which are pretty damn good. Another nice thing is green tomato mincemeat. It's asweet filling for pies or turnovers. It freezes really well, and can also be canned with a pressure canner. I've tried a couple of green tomato relishes, but they're not really my thing.

  6. ahh fried green tomatoes.....that brings to mind the mary louise parker and mary stuart food fight in the kitchen while cooking fried green tomatoes. Never tasted it yet. Think you can have it for the christmas party?

  7. I am going to be so jealous of you when it's the middle of winter and we've used all our canned tomatoes and you still have a ton.
