A.P.D. in the A.M.

My mind, it is as blank as a new journal. As empty as North Dakota. As vacuous as Paris Hilton.

That is to say, what the hell am I supposed to write about this morning? Why, something that requires YOU to write to ME!

I just love Audience Participation Days. You know you do, too. Don't deny it.

So, this morning, we shall discuss the beverages that get you going for the day. For most of my life, including in college, I only drank water in the mornings. How disgustingly healthy of me. A few years ago, I started drinking coffee (this coffee, but of course), a single cup with milk and sugar. Lately, I've been not wanting the coffee so much and have instead been drinking a big glass of orange juice.

A high school friend of mine had a father who drank Coke in the morning. This seemed weird to me at the time, but I now realize the caffeine is the important thing for most people, and Coke has that too. Albeit less than coffee. I suspect that those crazy kids these days probably drink those frightening energy drinks in the morning.

And what about you, duckies? Coffee heavily doctored with sugar? Coke? Herbal tea with honey? Straight vodka? What gets you going in the morning?

  1. Orange juice. I don't have the taste for anything else in the morning.

  2. There is no life before coffee... 2 cups, black and strong.

  3. Coffee with cream, no sugar. When I was pregnant, though, I had no taste for coffee, which made me sad. Instead, I became one of those cold-beverage people and drank iced tea. IN THE WINTER. I can't imagine this now.

  4. Green Mountain Coffee, black, including Newman's Own Special Blend. This morning it's a wonderful mug of Tanzanian Gombe Reserve with the added benefit of helping one of my heroes.

“Our effort to involve local citizens in restoring the forests and practicing sustainable agriculture is the most important work we can do to ensure a future for the Gombe chimpanzees and the people of Africa.”

  5. As I read you're post I'm enjoying my morning beverage of choice:
2 shots of espresso topped with steamed raw milk and a slight sprinkle of sugar (Mr Chiots likes his sweet as syrup, I like mine strong & slightly bitter).

MMM, coffee, couldn't get going without it!

  6. One cup of black coffee with sugar (which I don't always finish) and water for me on work days. I occasionally throw in a Vitamin water/juice. When I don't work, I skip the coffee and drink water and juice/vitamin water.

Ten years ago I used to drink 7-8 cups of coffee a day.

  9. Starbucks Ethiopian Sidoma coffee -- a full pot -- heavily doctored with Splenda and hazelnut creamer. Do not get in the way of me and my coffee.

I gave it up when I was pregnant. Twice. I'm still not convinced it mattered. If there were ever a third oops, I'd continue to swill it.

  10. Coffee, black. I enjoy a bowl of cereal (preferably with fresh fruit in season), but without the coffee? You don't want to know me.

  11. I've usually drink just ice water but lately it's been diet peach iced tea. I was one of those people that drank pepsi every morning to jump start the day.

  12. Had my first cup of coffee at age 25. Now without a cup I could bite the head off anyone that crosses me in the morning. Addictions are a bad thing, but it sure tastes good.

  13. Snickerdoodle flavored coffee with milk and 2 packets of Splenda for me. I like real sugar better, but i'm on a diet, so meh... EVERY. MORNING.

My hub drinks Coke with breakfast most days....coffee before his breakfast though...

  14. At home: usually coffee first thing, black, but sometimes tea, followed by coffee. Good coffee, strong and freshly brewed -- but in a pinch on a rushed morning, virtually anything will do. On vacation in the British Isles: two cups of tea, plain, as one is beginning to open to the day. Then, next hour at breakfast, two cups of coffee, black. A cold beverage would be shocking to the system!

  18. Milk. Freezing cold milk. I was just thinking this morning, as I drank my glass of milk, how lucky I am to be someone who loves milk. I really was.

  21. Have a cool Senseo one-cup coffee brewer, so at least one cup with half & half and WheyLow sweetner. I never like coffee until I worked at a coffee roasting company and had to learn to drink so I could sell it. Now I'm addicted.

  22. I'm like your friend's Dad. Its a bottle (and only a bottle will do - no cans) of Coke to get me started for the day.

  23. Grande skim latte - unless it's a Friday, when I go crazy and make it a grande skim caramel macchiato. I always thought it'd be fun to be an very old, very rich, white lady who'd start her day with a bloody mary.
