What the doctor says: Pregnancy results in a suppressed immune system, leaving the mother vulnerable to illness.
What I say: Pregnancy means you will get sick. OH YES YOU WILL. You there! The one who's so smug about your superior health and ability to fend off all the nastiness that drops mere mortals on a yearly basis. It's time for your lesson in humility. You will now catch every stomach bug, every disgusting, drippy cold that is making the rounds. No more immunity for you--now you're just like everyone else.
Why, hello, Nasty Cold! I've been expecting you! Welcome to the homestead. Now go away.
Oh what a bummer! Hope you feel better soon. Have A go kill a chicken and make you some soup! =)
ReplyDeleteGet lots of EXTRA rest during this time. Have the MiL bring you tea. Read a good mystery. Take long naps. Cuddle with dogs.
ReplyDeleteThink of all the immunity you are building. Of course none of it will help when your child goes to school but between now and then...you'll be fine. Or something like that. I'm grasping here.
ReplyDeleteOh man, Kristin. I hope you feel better. Stay inside! Or actually, perhaps you should go outside, it's probably warmer outside.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though - are you going to get the H1N1 vaccination? I was listening to a story about it on (where else?) NPR the other day and they were talking about this very thing... how the immune system is suppressed udring pregnancy and with the "mass" of the fetus compressing your lungs, especially during the last trimester, it makes pregnant women especially vulnerable to that ole "swine" flu.
ReplyDeleteRest. Drink liquids. And above all, wash your hands all the time!
ReplyDeleteIs it starve a cold, feed a fever or vice versa? I can never remember! Oh well, hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, they are recommending that pregnant women get the swine flu shot.
Oh no! That sucks. Pull the 'pregnancy card' and do what you need to do to feel better. You'll be back to shovelling snow and hauling logs in no time :)
ReplyDeleteFeel better!
The swine flu vaccine is not available to the public yet, probably won't be until late October. And yes, pregnant women are the first priority for it.
ReplyDeleteYou hear that? I'M NUMBER ONE! Suckas.
Hope you're feeling better soon!
