Okay, that might be just a bit of hyperbole, but still. Can I just tell you that the taste of reheated poultry is the most abhorrent taste in the world to me? For real. Especially if it's reheated in the microwave. The taste of it makes me want to vomit. Pork isn't so great either, but not as bad as chicken or turkey.
The interesting thing to me is that A. and the MiL do not have this problem. But my sister and my mom do. Is it genetic? Is it picky eating? Do YOU find the taste of reheated chicken revolting?
Chicken no, but reheated mince will have me dry heaving every time!
ReplyDeleteFor example, if we have spaghetti bolingnase (or however you choose to spell it), my Dad will have the leftover mince sauce on toast for breakfast the next morning. I on the other hand will eat breakfast as far away from him as I can get.
Hmmm...I've never noticed that, but I have noticed this SMELL that poultry and eggs sometime have. I can't really explain it except to say that it smells very ANIMAL-Y, and I don't know why I only notice it sometimes.
ReplyDeleteFor instance: we bought some french vanilla ice cream last weekend and GACK! Smells like weird egg-poultry smell! And no one can smell it but me!
(p.s. - my word verification is "gackeroo." How fitting.)
I find the taste of re-heated anything gross. which does not work out so good for leftovers around our house:)
ReplyDeleteKris
I have noticed that obnoxious smell if the poultry is reheated too quickly or to too high a temperature.I don't smell it if the reheating is done slowly (not in the microwave) or if the meat is truly smothered in some kind of sauce.
ReplyDeleteNot until NOW. I feel a little queazy just reading that...tho I am on the tale end of a cold..so not exactly up to par. It has never bothered me before. Now heat up some button mushrooms and I WILL barf, thankyouverymuch. Beth
ReplyDeleteword verification 'sweiv'
what you do right before you barf
I hate re-heated poulty. I will eat it cold but not warmed up again.
ReplyDeleteI don't like any reheated meat products. I know people who will eat grilled hamburgers for leftovers. blech!
ReplyDeleteYep can't stand the smell of reheated poultry either. Just thought I was weird. Glad others have the same aversion. Love your blog signed a regular lurker.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with reheated chicken, and I LOVE BBQ chicken cold the day after. NOMS NOMS NOMS!
ReplyDeleteTotally disgusting under certain circumstances. I agree. I seem to not mind it as much if it was cooked slowly originally, in a braise, or baked. But, yeah, pork and chicken do not reheat well in my opinion. I'd rather eat them cold.
ReplyDeleteMicrowaved meat of any kind is so unacceptable, to me, that I'd be OK if it were outlawed.
ReplyDeleteSO GROSS.
I am gagging over here just thinking about it.
I find it sickening. I can't even eat chicken that isn't pastured from the farm without getting nauseus. I find red meat more appetizing in any regard for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI used to find the taste of reheated anything horrible. But then my microwave died and I started reheating everything in a pan or cast iron skillet. Now leftovers are delicious. I think the microwave does weird things to food - so glad mine's gone!
But I do love some good bacon :)
