Still snowing, and now, for added enjoyment, let's add some drifting to the fun! WHEE!
Drifting, for those of you unfamiliar with this joy of winter driving, is when the snow gets blown across the road. This is a particular problem in farming areas because of all the open fields that allow for unobstructed blowing of the snow from that field onto the road. So you could be driving along on a perfectly clear day, no snow in sight on the road, and then WHAM! There's a foot high drift in your way. It's super fun.
There are several areas of bad drifting between our house and the Small City. It is also still snowing hard. This is why I made the executive decision to cancel Cubby's appointment for Round Two of his flu shot. Driving 40 miles roundtrip in this weather for a flu shot seems foolish in the extreme. It's not as if it's an emergency. So Cubby and I will stay huddled in the house today and the snow can drift all it wants.
I bet Cubby isn't too sorry about postponing his shot, either.
ReplyDeleteI hate snow. Can someone remind me why I live up north? I must have a good reason that I just can't remember.
ReplyDeleteI found out about drifting after moving to the land of wide open spaces. The scary part is that around here the method of dealing with drifts is to simply barrel right through them in your car. The snow is very lightweight, but after living forever with wet-as-cement snow in the Pacific Northwest, I still have to hold my breath and force my eyes open when I drive through drifts. Scary!
ReplyDeleteWHITE OUT! I remember those in the "north county." Cubby probably shouldn't have his flu shot anyway if his cold lingers. Mary in MN
ReplyDeleteSnuggle in and enjoy it .
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about your layering Cubby in uncountable layers of clothing for sleeping. How do you know how many layers to use? If he isn't sweating in the morning and doesn't wake at night shivering , is that JUST the right amount?
Sara, I would say'it is beautiful', if you don't have to get out in it . :)

ReplyDeleteBut you'll miss all the snowy surprises and Cubby will miss hearing his mother shriek in horror :(
ReplyDeleteToo bad.
The best part of drift/snow driving is when you surprisingly meet a snow plow on a blind hill, with no lane dividers painted or seen. That certainly heightens the pucker factor! LA&A Railroad
ReplyDeleteBeth: No chance he'll be sweating. Keep in mind he can't have any blankets, because he would pull them over his face. So he pretty much has to wear the equivalent of the blankets.
ReplyDeleteHuddling is good. Flu shot, the sequel, can happen later.
ReplyDeleteOh, God, I dread the snow... I know it'll be here soon.
