Found Food

I went into the kitchen early this morning and found unexpected food all over the counters and in the refrigerator.

Since I knew where this food came from, it was fun rather than alarming. At least, I can guess where this food came from. The MiL went to see a friend of hers last night who is moving, so the reasonable assumption is that these boxes of food are the culls from her house.

I love seeing what food other people have in their kitchens. It's absolutely fascinating to me. Is there such a thing as a food voyeur? If there is, that's me. That's why it was doubly exciting to find this collection of refugee food in my kitchen. It's like snooping in someone else's kitchen, except I get to keep the food! WHEEE!!!

Also, I was starving and one of the things I found was a package of English muffins, so that was handy.

Also also, there are now several pudding cups in the refrigerator. My day is officially made.

  1. hi.

i do not remember if i said hello or not; i do not wish to be a rude, rude lurker.

i came in here a while ago and started reading and i notice that you can string together a sentence or two in a sharp and interesting way and what i really like about blogs is that sometimes you get to look in on regular people having regular lives which is pretty cool when you stop to think about it.

anyway, i like the way you write about your life, so i stuck around.

i don't really have much to add to the conversation, but thanks.

today i'm baking bread and making ice cream and working on my snowfort. where i live it is bright and sunny and brutally cold. and i'll have to go to the grocery store, but there's nothing worth telling about in that, i hope.

    enjoy your new treasure trove.

  3. Food voyeur, as in one who glances to find out what is in other people's shopping carts in the grocery store. Yes, I'm guilty.

  4. Oh thanks. Now instead of fighting the urge to peek in people's medicine cabinets, I'm going to have to resist the urge to peek in their cupboards. And I don't think I'll be able to.

  5. Yes, I agree voyeurism is a bit addictive. I sometimes feel like flask when I read about people's day to day issues and upsets in their blogs. But I also kinda get to feel like they are a weird sort of friend.

    You would love the website:
    http://www.theperfectpantry.com/2011/01/other-peoples-pantries-145.html

where for the past 3 years on Saturdays she has posted photos of the inside of people's pantries. Even though you _know_ they've been cleaned up for the photo session it is still fascinating.

I came across a photo shoot where a guy did a study of people's refrigerators. He opened the doors wide and took a photo. Then in the description it would give minimal information about the person or family who owned it. Like "Single man, age 24, occupation bartender, works nightshift" or "Family of 4, Mom is active in Eat Local campaign" The first showed a fridge full of take out boxes the second full of fresh veggies and jugs of milk. Fascinating. I have no record of the link for that one though.

So, yeah. I get your excitement. Specially with pudding!

  9. A bit intimidating, right?
Of course who would post photos of their pantry except people who have kick ass pantries?
Someone should start a feature called "Real people's pantries." Of course the photos would be posted anonymously.
