First Snow

P.S. Yeah, he's adorable. He also did not nap yesterday. Maybe Santa is waiting until Christmas to grant that request. In which case, I will officially have gone as crazy as a shithouse rat* by December 25th. Fair warning.

* This lovely rustic phrase brought to you by my lovely rustic husband.

  1. Sadly, they do stop taking naps before we are ready to stop.

  2. Must be an upstate NY thing. My mother and my grandmother used to say the, "Crazy as a shithouse rat" phrase. Grandmother was born in the late 1890's. She would ask, "Where do you trade?", meaning from what store do you buy your groceries. As a kid I often was left wondering what exactly my grandparents were talking about.

And the nap thing sucks.... at least he goes to bed at a reasonable hour.

  3. My kids napped until kindergarten. whether you actually SLEEP or not, you are required to get on your bed at 1:00 and you may NOT come out of your room until 2:00. EVERY SINGLE FREAKING DAY. They can play quietly, look at a book, whatever, but 9 times out of 10 (after the initial couple of days) they end up falling asleep anyway and when I come to rescue them at 2, they are snoozing away.

Just remember, YOU are the adult. They might fuss at first, but really... its just part of growing up and learning there are rules and they gotta follow them.

  5. My entire family is generations of Southerners, and we say/are crazier than shithouse rats. For polite company, we say 'outhouse' rats, real respectable-like. :) I remember my Grandma and Mema (see Southern reference above)
'trading' with so-and-so. I used to think 'trading' what?! Pelts? Whiskey? You're at the IGA, ladies! Now I know it was trading my grandfather's patience for the weeks' groceries...

    And Cubby? Absolutely adorable!
