Charlie is not a cold-weather person. He
wants to be a cold-weather person, because he wants to be like Cubby. Cubby is most definitely cold-hardy; he comes alive when the temperature drops below freezing and will stay out for hours. Charlie valiantly attempts to stay out with him, but will invariably show up at the door after a little while to announce he's "fweezin' ter death" and wants to come in.
Then he plants himself on the heating vent in the living room until he thaws. Sometimes he gets so comfortable he passes right out.
Like so.
I foresee a future for Charlie in the sunbelt. This frozen wasteland is not for him. Because he can't stay on the heating vent all the time.
He's a cat!
ReplyDeleteI used to do this as I was growing up in Colorado. Nothing is better for warmth and sleep for a productive heating vent. Mary in MN
ReplyDeleteGuess it sounds kind of wimpy to remember using a floor heater in Louisiana to get toasty warm before getting into cold sheets, but our bodies are our bodies, and Charlie is probably way more cold tolerant than any of us in warmer climates. But, as you said, he's got a brother who is way over the top on cold insensitivity to be judged against.
ReplyDeletePoor Charlie, but I couldn't help laughing at him falling asleep near the heating vent! My son and daughter in law both grew up in Rochester and my son went to Clarkson University (in the really cold part of the state). Now they live in Richmond, Virginia. They both just grew tired of the North Pole.
ReplyDeleteOne might note that Charlie's great-grandfather was noted for assuming the same position on the floor for a quick nap, although not directly on the register.
ReplyDeleteLove that picture of Charlie at the register! That's a classic piece of Blackrock history. Save it for Charlie's teen years. His girlfriends will love it.
