Bingo! I'm Weird

I saw this morning, on a random Twitter account*, this bingo card entitled "Meats I've Eaten."

Not only could I make bingo without any problems, there are only four things on this card that I haven't eaten: boar, gator, snake, and shark. And the only reason I haven't eaten those is because A. has never happened to trap or shoot one.

However! I don't see squirrel on that card. Or beaver (and let's not forget the tail). Or lamb testicles. So I'm gonna go ahead and give myself full marks for an eclectic carnivorous lifestyle, even if most of it was only because of the man I married.

So how about you? What of those meats have you eaten? Are there any you would absolutely refuse to try?

* I did try to find the original source for this, but as is so often the case on the Internet, it seems to have sprung forth fully formed, like Athena.

  1. Well, the Bingo card is not fully idiomatic. We really don't eat "cow"; we eat beef. Likewise pig and pork. Except pig's feet, of course. I think you've also had grouse--so one more for the list--

  2. I'm not even close, but I too have had squirrel, so there's that.

Do the feral pigs in Texas count as boar? If so, then it's not too hard to find a farmer who'll welcome a hunt. This could be arranged.

I'm afraid I have nothing to offer re. shark. lol.

  3. No shark ... gator maybe? ... I don't think quail ... Yeah, I think all the rest. My uncle's hunting club does this fundraiser every year where they serve up everything they've stored in their deep freezer through the year. Lots of meat.

Extras not on the card: bear, beaver, badger, squirrel, moose, and a few others I'm sure I've forgotten. All of them I would try again except bear. I tried it three years in a row cooked three different ways. Every time it was disgusting.

  4. I think frog is the only one I’ve not eaten. Can add lots of other random wild game and fish/shellfish plus ostrich to my list!

  5. They're missing one. Horsemeat. I was fed horsemeat as a child in France--I had no idea it was horse when I was politely chowing down--and I think it kind of scarred me. I went vegetarian four years later, and stayed vegetarian for nearly two decades!

  6. The above comment reminds me that I have eaten burro, in the Gila Mts of NM about 45 years ago--a woodsman had to eliminate one of his burros, and he did not let it go to waste and was willing to share with nearby hikers. It was pretty good, after I got over being totally freaked out.

  7. I have eaten all the farm animals & the tuna, lobster, salmon, crab, & shrimp. Not a fan of wild animals.

  8. I think eel is close enough to snake to count, so yes I've eaten almost everything on the bingo card and then some. I draw the line at raw fish though. That just is too far for me. Only veggie sushi eaten here.

  9. I have eaten boar, gator, snake, and shark. Other than those, it is just pig, cow, chicken, and quail. I refuse to eat lamb, rabbit, or deer. I may have to resort to eating them in a apocalypse situation, but for now I don’t have to. I have had ample opportunity to eat deer, since I grew up and continue to live in one of the countries in Alabama most known for deer hunting. If you count one bite and spit it out, I have eaten crab, tuna, lobster, shrimp, and salmon.

  10. I'd at least try them all if someone else did the cooking. Have had allegator a number of times in New Orleans as one would expect. Really tasty - like chicken!
