Oh, hey. Just checking in today to let you know that
I started writing this blog ten years ago today.
Ten years.
That's crazy.
I suppose I should have something profound to say right now, but frankly, I'm too tired. So let me just say this:
Thank you to all of you who read this, and especially all of you who comment. To be truthful, that's often the only non-family interaction I get most days.
Should I not admit that? Maybe.
Anyway.
Happy ten years to
Going Country. Let's carry on, shall we?
Congrats! I read your blog daily. I am in New Jersey and on the golden side of raising kids, thank you for sharing your journey.
ReplyDeleteYes lets keep on writing!!! Love your stories!!
ReplyDeleteI’ve been reading since pre-Cubby regularly too. From Sydney Australia. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the list of your loyal readers! I've been following you since before Cubby came along. I have grandchildren now but often your posts remind me of those days long ago when I had little ones.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a BC (before Cubby) reader. I wonder what your next 10 years will be? Cubby will be grown and off to college. Poppy will be the age Cubby is now. I see many adventures happening.
ReplyDeleteI'm proud to think I'm probably your most inappropriate reader and occasional commenter. I,too, was a Before Cubby reader. I find your life fascinating and love your writing style. Is it weird that I think of you when I see the national weather report? So very different than Arkansas! Love you, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteYours is the only blog I read regularly, and I look forward to each new posting. Congratulations! and Thank you--for the writing, the stories, for sharing the lives of your family. It's a real treat.
ReplyDeleteI have also been reading since before Cubby made his appearance! I started reading your blog when I was living in a city (150,000+ people), and homesick for the farm I grew up on! Now the Hubs and I have our own 3 acres with two little ones!
ReplyDeleteLove reading this! Hello from Austin TX. No recollection at all as to how I found your blog but I still enjoy keeping up with it.
ReplyDeleteHello from Mary in MN--and of course, I read you daily (and if you don't post one day, I re-read your last post).
ReplyDeleteHappy 10 years!! I actually think I’ve probably been reading your blog almost that long! Now I’m feeling old too lol.
ReplyDeleteAlso a BC reader, from N Central Kansas. Getting ready to burn last years residue off of my pollinator habitat acres. Thanks for continuing to post.
ReplyDeletePre Cubby here also but not sure how far before, lol. I think I remember a road trip you and A took to PA or somewhere that involved a used car or truck you were buying? Sound familiar? Eh...who knows. Just keep writing, enjoying watching from afar as you raise your family (started in OH, then GA and now currently UT but I hope to be moving on soon).
ReplyDeleteI read your entries faithfully and enjoy them so much although I never comment, until today. I would miss them terribly if you quite writing, so please don't!
ReplyDeleteMMW in MN
I guess you have at least 2 fans in Utah. I started reading at or near the beginning because the MIL clued me in, and I enjoyed your writing style and reading occasional news of her. I find, however, that even though you've moved away from Blackrock, I'm pretty hooked on following your adventures in parenthood, country living, and cooking. I don't often have anything to say in a comment, but if there were a way to comment via an emoji like on FB, I'd be a pretty regular user of "Like," "Haha," and "Wow." Congratulations on 10 years. What a gift to yourself and your children to have in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm new here via Frugal Girl, where I always enjoy your comments -- then it occurred to me that (*gasp*) I could also follow you on your OWN site. So here I am in southwest Kansas, reading along quietly and being amused at how much tu mere sounds like my mom at times. I enjoy your writing. Happy 10 years!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 10 years and thank you for keeping Going Country now that you have Gone.
ReplyDeleteI remember Phoo-d commenting back when I started reading and commenting so I've been here a bit as well.
I do believe the kids will love having all this background on how they grew up. And remembering as they read it.
Beth
What a milestone! Can't remember how I found your blog but I've been enjoying it for years. I so enjoy your perspective and writing style that I read back through all the old posts when I first found it years ago, to get caught up on the backstory!
ReplyDeleteI'm a stay at home mum, of two girls aged 4 and 7, living in New Zealand so the overlap and opposition between our lives is really interesting! Same issues half the time, totally the opposite at other times! But after two non-sleeping babies, I can greatly sympathize with Poppy's current phase and commend you for your positive attitude in the face of sleep deprivation!
Found you via The Frugal Girl. Great blog. I so enjoy reading & love your perspective.

I make baked beans in a crock pot and it makes a lot. I freeze some and the family loves them. I started reading from when you commented on the Frugal Girl blog and am trying to read all the way back. Cheryl
ReplyDeleteI think I might have found you back in the EARLY Pioneer Woman days from a comment you left back when only 15 or 20 of us commented. I was hooked on your story and writing style from the beginning. You've come full circle back to the food (haha) glad to "share" what you are eating. Congratulations on 10 years from a faithful reader in Florida.
ReplyDeletewooohooo! partyhat!
ReplyDeletei love your blog and i think of you as a friend in that we've never actually met internet way.
you are my sole source of entertaining stories about children.
Congrats! I'm just a lurker who doesn't really comment much, but I enjoy your blog :)
ReplyDeleteBelated congrats!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog after 7 quick takes were given up and you commented regularly on Tejanagringa.blogspot.com. Now my second baby is six months old and during long nursing sessions and longer nights I've been reading through your archives from the beginning till this post. Thanks a lot for writing! In the beginning I read for Blackrock entertainment, then for the next baby coming. We are similarly obsessed with food although I thankfully live in more moderate temperatures.
Fiona: Thank you for your kind words. The best compliments I get are people who tell me they've read every post during a long, challenging period of their lives. Congratulations on your new (ish) baby, and coincidentally today, Happy Mother's Day!
