A Poll

Is there anyone who actually likes Daylight Saving Time? Anyone? Seriously, all I see and hear from people is how much they hate it, how it screws up their schedules, and especially how it makes children into raging demons for at least a week or so as they try to adjust to their new bedtimes and wake-up times.

YOU try explaining to a not-quite-two-year-old why he's still awake at 6:30 p.m. when he can quite obviously tell that it is really 7:30 p.m. and therefore past his bedtime so PUT ME TO BED RIGHT NOW, MOM, SCREW THAT CLOCK.

In Cubby's case, that takes the form of manic hyperactivity and repeated queries as to, "Nap? Nap? Nap?" In case you were curious.

So really, now, in all seriousness: Who out there can profess to actually liking the time change? And if no one does, why in the name of everything true and holy and my child's schedule are we still doing this stupid thing as a country?*

* Although not everyone in the country does, of course. Oh, Arizona. I hated so many things about you, but your refusal to acknowledge DST was one small thing about you that I LOVED.

Oh it doesn’t stop at two year olds...it fades for a couple years then it comes back as "real time vs. old time" as with what we got to deal with yesterday....All I could think of was "Where is Mr. Hand (of Fast Times at Ridgemont High fame) to explain time?"

I HATE DST!!! The only good thing about it is that I am up and at em before 7am for a week... But then it is back to my old habits of getting up too late to feel accomplished... And why do we even need this stupid thing? it gets dark at 545 (soon to be like, 445 pm) and it does nothing except make people go into the winter blues... I want my summer "time" back!!!

I wish they would just leave it alone. It threw the whole weekend off, we felt lousy, couldn't sleep. Here in Canada we have one province that put their foot down, Saskatchewan, and they just do their own thing. Smart.

I think that lots would agree that it's best to be on DST all the time! Actually, it's DST in the summer, right? It's when we go "off" it that causes all the trouble. Mary in MN

Our county used to ignore the time change and just did our own thing and it was heavenly.
They had to change us because they were jealous of what a sweet life we were living. Beth

Hate it!
They should either leave it alone or split the difference.

Ok, I'll speak up.

I LIKE DST.

I hate when the sun goes down before I even get out of work. I hate short days.

As far as kids go - we always just adjust them over a couple of days... 15 minutes is less disruptive than a whole hour... works for the horses and dogs too...

I LOVE IT.

I got an hour more of the weekend and it was divine. All day Bubba and I were saying to each other, "Daylight Savings is awesome. Our weekend feels so long. This is the best day ever!"

Probably because we don't have kids and look forward to winter because Winter = Skiing.

You'll hear me bitching when we have Daylight Savings in spring - losing an hour does NOT sit well for me. Ever.

I cannot count the number of times I have vowed in anger to move to Arizona solely on the basis of their DST defiance.

Our government thrives on archaic, outdated, and ineffectual rules, regulations, policies and committees.

If we were to get rid of DST, what would they do??

I love observing something that was put in place by the Navy so many years ago no one remembers and has no possible redeeming characteristics.

*biting sarcasm*

Wasn't DST put in place so that the farmers would have an extra hour in the fields in the spring and summer?

Farmers are one example of why DST was implemented. From what I have garnered the majority of the reasons revolve around work and energy conservation (specifically coal in the days of yore...)

I have never heard anything about the Navy implementing or being the reason for DST, we use Zulu or GMT for everything. Lindsey, I am curious to the explanation of why or where that information is located at? It’ll be great trivia at my next get together!

Most of the time I hate it, but this year I like it. I have lost 60lbs by walking (and changing my eating) and I walk in the morning. It was getting harder and harder to walk in the am with it being so dark, now when I walk at 6am, it's not so bad. So this year? Love it!

Yeah, I can't believe Arizona made me like it about something. I feel dirty. But I'm TOO FREAKING TIRED to do anything about it.
