Millie Had a Little Lamb

Millie the Merino had her baby this morning. She's a first-time mom. Like me. Maybe we should start a moms group in the barn. Also like me, she had a boy. Unlike me, however, her boy is likely going to end up being the main course of Easter dinner.

ANYWAY.

This brings the total lamb count to six--four boys and two girls. The other small Merino is due anytime, and then there are the small Cotswolds, who will have their lambs much later.

Blackrock is awash in babies.

will you be eating all the lambs or do you eat just the males?

Last year we sold them all for butchering, because trying to keep the ram we have now separate from his female offspring is a huge pain in the ass (inbreeding in sheep--much like for humans--is not a good thing). Not sure what will happen this year--probably the same thing.

OOOOOO, lambs such cuties.

I'd buy one of your lambs if I lived closer, yum.

Perhaps someday you little cubbie will write a book about you spinning wool and weaving it into great warm merino wool fabric for his warm woolen winter clothing (like Almanzo in Farmer Boy).
