Although I have never been a big drinker, I have always liked to drink sometimes. I still do, it's just that "sometimes" has now become "rarely."
The reason for this is mostly because when I have a drink, I want to be able to relax. I do not want to have a drink and then spend the next two hours cooking and cleaning up dinner, for example. I will not get home late from an event and have a drink before bed, either. Pretty much the only time I want to have a cocktail is at 4 p.m. We eat early and I go to bed early, so everything else is correspondingly early as well.
So the situations in which I actually have a drink are very specific, and therefore very infrequent.
When I do have a drink, it is always a cocktail. I never much liked beer or wine. When I was younger, I liked rum and Coke. Later, I liked gin and tonic. And then for awhile, I preferred Sidecars.
All of those, however, relied on sugar for flavor. I find that now, I don't want any sugar at all in addition to the alcohol when I have a cocktail. That's why I now drink flavored vodka. That way I can have flavor with no sugar (or sugar substitutes, which I uniformly dislike). I always cut it with flavored seltzer, too. My favorite flavored vodka is peach. The lime vodka my sister brought last time she visited was good, too.
This makes a very light drink that is just enough to be pleasant.

Oh, I love sidecars. I'll have to try that peach vodka. Your drink sounds really good. My recent cocktail is the cosmopolitan already mixed in a bottle from the state store.

A proper Manhattan beats any more trendy cocktail in my book, but in the summer, there is The Last Word, which is pretty special. And then there's the Negroni, which is excellent on occasion. A good single malt is always acceptable. MIL
I don't drink. I tried alcohol in college and did not like it at all. I had rum and diet coke if necessary, but really yucky. Too many empty calories for something I don't like to drink! I'll ear cookies instead.
I do enjoy a drink now and then, but I try to limit it because I gain weight from it easily. I used to like dark beer, but my tastes have changed. My drink of choice is bourbon, probably. I like it with an ice cube or two (if our ice maker is working). My favorite occasion to drink is when I'm cooking by myself or with my husband in the kitchen. My very favorite occasion to drink is when I have a lot of baking to do after supper: I turn on old country music (Hank, E.T., etc.), mix things up and wash dishes, and sip the whiskey. Of note, my great-grandfather (who died a couple months before I was born), was a moonshiner in the hills of WV, so the old music about moonshine is some of my favorite drinking music because I think that was sort of what his life was like, from what I've heard.
