Charging Flash

Why does my camera say that all the time? Does the flash really require that much charging that frequently? Doesn't the camera know that when it spends all that time charging the flash despite the sun and light that actually make the flash unnecessary, I get blurry shots like these instead of a crazy-cute and in-focus picture of Cubby in his daddy's hat?

Stupid camera.

It's still a cute picture, flash or no flash!

Here all this time I thought blurry pictures were from me moving while taking said picture...now you tell me it is because the flash flashes when it doesn't need to...you learn something new everyday.

Will your camera allow you to turn off the flash and manually adjust your settings? I never use flash indoors anymore and I get a much better photo. Depending on time of day and exposure, folks can't move too fast (meaning it may not always work for Cubby), but the tradeoff is better white balance, no red eye, and no annoying delay for the charge.

This is why I love my iphone. It take pics super fast and I cant take the one after another and then just get rid of the ones I don't want.

Plus, it's always there with me. And my camera is such an embarrassment to digital cameras that I hate to take it out for fear that some dude is gonna start snickering at it.

The flash bulb on your camera takes a huge draw from the battery. It uses a capacitor to collect up enough voltage to make a really bright flash, and it takes time to recharge the capacitor between shots. Ehow has a good not too detailed explanation of how it works: http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4564574_camera-flash-work.html
When the batteries in your camera run low it takes inordinate amounts of time longer to recharge the capacitor for the flash bulb. If you're seeing that message it's probably time to replace or recharge your camera batteries
