Hey, anyone remember Cubby's Megaton cabbages?
Yeah, he doesn't get to claim them anymore, because after planting the seeds, he pretty much lost interest.
So would you like to see my and A.'s Megaton cabbage?
The mug I put in there for scale is a free one from Penzeys Spices that says "Heal the world . . . make dinner tonight." It's gonna take a lot more than cooking dinner to heal the world these days.
Full disclosure: That's the biggest of the nine cabbages we grew. It's pretty big, though. It's just a hair over five pounds and yes, I weighed it.
Even though that's a big cabbage, it is definitely not as big as the Megaton was advertised to get. However, given our hellishly hot and windy spring and summer, I'm happy to have anything that just survived, much less produced usable vegetables.
We've given away four cabbages already, leaving four still in the garden, which means we actually have about fifteen pounds of cabbage on hand.
It's been awhile since I've used my kraut crock, but it looks like this is the year.

Cooked cabbage, carrots and onions is a delightful combo. With some meat or hot dogs or smoked sausage.
At least he helped in the growth , if he hadn't started the escapade there would be no cabbage.
Hi! First time commenting, but I love your blog! A few months ago, Walmart messed up my pickup order, and I ended up with a fridge shelf full of cabbage. I had never used it much prior to The Cabbage Incident, but came to appreciate it...particularly the fact that it seems to stay good forever. Anyway, I made 100 versions of slaw, then started adding it to ground meat as a sort of stretcher. It was great in Asian-themed tacos and lettuce wraps, in particular. Eventually it did all get eaten...without me attempting to make kraut. Yippee!
G.P.: I actually just made that today. :-) Minus the meat. I usually just add some cheese to it.
Lauren: Way to power through. I can eat cabbage in almost anything. There are some members of my household who have a bit more trouble digesting it, though . . .
I find it hard to believe you don't have meat at every meal . :)
G.P. I definitely don't. The rest of my house does not feel the same way, though.
