Big Day Yesterday

The firewood man finally delivered our wood. He's apparently very busy this year. As if I couldn't tell that by the fact that he was supposed to come the last two weekends, and yet never showed until last night. No matter. We have our wood, it will be stacked today, and all will be well and warm at Blackrock. At least in the dining room where the woodstove is. The bedrooms are another story.

Also, I went in for a 20-week ultrasound yesterday afternoon, at which we learned that we are most definitely having a boy*. A very active boy with a large head. Also a very stubborn boy who refused to be nudged into position so the technician could see everything she wanted to see. No pushing THIS kid around, obviously.

This may not bode well for the future.

* Actual quote from the technician as she was recording the stats in her computer: "Usually I put 'male' with a question mark. No question mark for this boy, though." Mommy's little exhibitionist. We're so proud.

20 weeks, so due when? Hope that boy is going to be born wearing a fur coat. He's going to need it in the deep freeze bedroom. Eskimo baby. Start telling people now how to select an appropriate baby gift for the Blackrock micro climate. Wool, polar fleece, hats, quilts, etc. Need lots, must put him in layers of swaddling. Watch him turn out to be like most boys, a streaker running around the house in a batman cape.

Congrats on the male heir.
;) Have you thought about cutting a hole in the floor above wood stove to let heat upstairs, if that is where the bedrooms are? Again congratulations on the baby boy.

That is so exciting! Congratulations on a boy! He'll have lots of opportunity to partake in manly activities like stacking wood around Blackrock. Hooray!

Okay, to answer questions and comments . . .

My due date is the end of February. The 22nd, if you want to get all specific, but I usually don't bother, because we all know how reliable THOSE dates are.

There is a pass-through vent above the woodstove. It opens into the floor in A.'s office. Which is actually kind of in the back of the house. That is, not near the bedrooms.

I think I will start referring to this child as the man-cub. Or just Mowgli.

A girl would have had lots of opportunity for manly activities too. God knows I do.

As the mother of a boy I can tell you it is wonderful! And Shelia is right, streaking around in a cape will become a daily routine no what the temperature. It's going to be so much fun.

I think that you should have an audience participation day so we can suggest names.

Stock up on copies of Farmer Boy! When my sister in law went in for her ultrasound, the lab tech said "Well, I wouldn't buy a lot of blue." Apparently it's a girl. :)

A boy! A boy! Good lord, brace yourself. You will love him something awful (in the words of Loretta Castorini in Moonstruck) and he will drive you crazy as only a male you love can. But not for a while. At first, he will be completely adorable.

Congratulations, Kristin! When my brother and sister-in-law found out about my nephew, they had to tell us right away before they sent us the sonogram picture because, well, we would've guessed for ourselves. No question mark for that kid either!

Oh hey, I just read your comment. Will it get confusing if your kid is Mowgli and my other nephew is already Mowgli? I guess not.
