Homebound

It occurs to me that I may be the most intense homebody I know. I do not like to leave my house. And I'm not just talking about traveling for several days with an infant. I don't even like to be away from my house for several hours. Of course, I usually enjoy myself once I get out and go somewhere, but the getting out part is a definite hurdle and I'm always very relieved to get home again.

And it's not just because I have a small, completely dependent life form to care for now, either. I was like that before gestation. A. doesn't understand it. He goes nuts if he doesn't leave the house for a couple of days. I can--and do--go literally weeks without leaving the property. This is admittedly a lot less boring when living someplace like Blackrock, which provides entertainment and work to keep me occupied on a daily basis. If I still lived in a shitty studio apartment, I don't think I'd be quite so hermity.

ANYWAY.

Shall we have an Audience Participation Day today? Yes? Yeah, I thought you'd been missing them. So please, share with the class: Are you a wanderer, or is the very thought of putting on acceptable clothing and leaving your house enough to make you break out in hives? (Or, you know, something in between.)

If I didn't have a son who needed to be driven places, I would never leave. It's gotten worse as I've gotten older. But I'm comfortable here and crowds bother me. Naturally I'm married to a man who is the complete opposite and is never home except to sleep and maybe watch the news.

Total homebody. I only go to work, the store and the library.

Both I and the spouse are more and more inclined not to leave home. In fact, I would be happy never to get on a plane again. It's not that our home life is so interesting; it's just that our demand for comfort has gotten greater. Movies, however, are the exception. Mary in MN

I am a homebody, unless I'm with someone. I only like to go places with my husband, but never alone.

Home is always best. Would never leave if I had enough money. Hate shopping and would have everything delivered if $ were unlimited.

I don't leave home unless I want to. That doesn't happen often. I don't like to shop. Now that I think of it...I don't usually go anywhere without hubby either. I can, I have a car, he has a truck. Interacting with people just wears me out.Beth

I am the most anti-social person I know. If you call, I won't answer the phone. If you invite, I will decline. I only show up at work because I get paid and I need the money, and I don't really want you to talk to me at the office either. I have about four good friends and I have to remind myself I like them or I would completely fall out of touch with them, too.

That's why I love the internet. I can have friends without really having friends. (She says, trying not to sound like a weird online stalker.)

My husband says it's a by-product of having a job that demands I smile and play nice and talk to people ALL DAY LONG. I dream of living your life.

I am totally a homebody. I don't like to leave home. In one week, I chose no to attend three parties because I'd rather be at home watching movies/reading in my pajamas. And I have no regrets. I am not a very social person. I could go weeks without leaving my house and I'd be perfectly fine.

And like Mayberry Magpie, I try not to answer the phone. I let it go to voicemail and I figure if it's really important, I can listen to it then. I have been known to not answer the door, pretending I am not home, unless it is someone I really want to see.

I am gonna get back on here to say, if it is allowed....that I am so glad I am not alone in not answering the phone or door if I don't want to....if it isn't important enough to leave a message...they shouldn't have called in the first place. :) Beth
And am sooo with Mayberry and Haley.

Total wanderer. Don't get me wrong, it's always good to get home again. But the instant I'm home I'm planning where to go next ... even if it's just out for dinner or out to see a friend. All you have to do is mention the word 'roadtrip' and I'm packed and ready to go in a flash. Doesn't matter where, I'm in. I would go STIRCRAZY if I couldn't get out and about, as often as possible.

Having said all that, I am also so NOT a joiner. I don't do well in group activities at all and am quite comfortable with my own company. I love to travel and explore with my husband, and with a few close friends. :-)

Oh I looooooooooove to be home. I relish the idea of a weekend without plans to go anywhere. I don't mind if people come to *my* house, but I'd rather be home than most other places.

Now, yes, I have fun when I go out, which is painfully frequent, but I am extra super happy to be home, even if I've just gone out for an hour.

When I return from international travel, I try to hug the house. And my garden. It's sad.

wow, there ARE others out there like me! specifically, stephanie, mayberry magpie and haley.

i put on my pajamas/lounging around the house clothes as soon as i walk in the door and it is getting increasingly hard to get me out of them. i go to work because i HAVE to. i screen my calls and i do not answer the door if i'm not expecting someone.

i didn't used to be like this either, but as i get older and people keep pissing me off, i find i like home a lot better than any other place.

i don't think of it as anti-social, though. it's just more comfortable. surely, i've earned that.

I *love* to wander, but only after I've had my fill of alone-time at home. And that hasn't happened since I moved into this house at the end of March. I've been working 6 days a week since then, and I crave a day at home where I don't have to do anything I don't want to. This house is my haven and cave and comfort zone.

When I was 12 I wanted to be a hermit. That ambition still stands.

I'm a little of both. I can be totally happy at home with my laptop or a good book, but I do like road trips with hotels. I think it's the whole idea that I can sleep in a room that I don't have to clean! And eat a meal that I don't have to cook!

I'm somewhere in between. I used to be someone who would go nuts if I stayed at home for more than a day, but with a 3 year old it's harder to go and do things than it is to stay home and follow our normal rhythm. I really love getting out of the house to do things on my own - an afternoon alone at a bookstore would be heaven...
