Auntie Mia likes free-range pooping, too.
AND NOW! For the big surprise of the day!
LAAAAAAAMB!!!!!
This little girl was born last night. Mama there is Cleo, the oldest of the Merinos A. bought last summer. A. noted last night that Cleo had separated herself from the other ewes and wasn't interested in the food he brought out, so he thought she was ready to give birth. Sure enough, at seven this morning A. went out to check and found lambie there already up and frisking about. This is the first lamb of the season, and also the first girl lamb we've ever had. And BECAUSE it's a girl, we'll be keeping her instead of eating her. Which means we can name her. We haven't come up with a name yet, but we're working on it. We're anticipating four more lambs soon. The other two ewes look ready to give birth at any time.
As if I don't get enough bitching about my failure to post puppy pictures every single day, you can now yell at me for not posting lamb pictures. Goody.

My, what big ears the lamb has.
Ok, the puppies are still really, really cute. But the little lamb? Absolutely adorable! She looks so small and precious.
So you don't spend your nights in the barn waiting for the magical birthing moment? I'm sure the sheep would make room for you.
Such adorable pictures, both of them! Keep 'em coming or we'll give you a hard time!!!
Oh, do I smell a name the lamb contest? Your babies are so cute, it's making me very jealous, as we will be having no babies of any kind this spring.
Enjoy lambing season! I'll enjoy the pictures when you have time to post them. Lambs are so photogenic!
I always love lamb season at the local sheep farm. What cuties. Can't wait to hear the name.
Lamb envy.
I vote for Mary. You know "Mary WAS a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb..."
;-)
more free range poop pics please
On free range pooping: MiL is about to go out and clean up the pen. Many little piles have appeared since last night. But the shovel and a pail foutine is SO much better than the picking up and disposing of many square yards of incredibly disgusting newspaper, followed by paper towels for the inevitable off-paper poops and the pine-sol mopping. People who undertake to raise puppies are a bit masochistic!
I think I'm going to call the little girl lamb Eunice.
LAMB!!!
LAAAMMBSSS!!!!
awww...I should've scrolled down to see that someone beat me to the obnoxious all caps lambs...boo
OMG LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMB! And one you won't be eating - BONUS!
So we've been slow in getting over to see the puppies, but apparently it's worth the wait. Lambs are cuter than puppies!
Alyssa
Why are the lamb's ears so pointy and huge? That's very fucking cute. Like, REALLY cute. I find weirdness cute, what can I say.
Thanks for the puppy photos. I was experiencing withdrawal shakes.
