Two for the Price of One

You're all yelling for puppy pictures, so here's one for you. The puppies can be outside in the pen now, where they tussle about playfully and poop as much as they want without someone having to clean up after them. Three cheers for free-range pooping!

Auntie Mia likes free-range pooping, too.

AND NOW! For the big surprise of the day!

LAAAAAAAMB!!!!!

This little girl was born last night. Mama there is Cleo, the oldest of the Merinos A. bought last summer. A. noted last night that Cleo had separated herself from the other ewes and wasn't interested in the food he brought out, so he thought she was ready to give birth. Sure enough, at seven this morning A. went out to check and found lambie there already up and frisking about. This is the first lamb of the season, and also the first girl lamb we've ever had. And BECAUSE it's a girl, we'll be keeping her instead of eating her. Which means we can name her. We haven't come up with a name yet, but we're working on it. We're anticipating four more lambs soon. The other two ewes look ready to give birth at any time.

As if I don't get enough bitching about my failure to post puppy pictures every single day, you can now yell at me for not posting lamb pictures. Goody.

Ok, the puppies are still really, really cute. But the little lamb? Absolutely adorable! She looks so small and precious.

So you don't spend your nights in the barn waiting for the magical birthing moment? I'm sure the sheep would make room for you.

Oh, do I smell a name the lamb contest? Your babies are so cute, it's making me very jealous, as we will be having no babies of any kind this spring.

On free range pooping: MiL is about to go out and clean up the pen. Many little piles have appeared since last night. But the shovel and a pail foutine is SO much better than the picking up and disposing of many square yards of incredibly disgusting newspaper, followed by paper towels for the inevitable off-paper poops and the pine-sol mopping. People who undertake to raise puppies are a bit masochistic!
I think I'm going to call the little girl lamb Eunice.

So we've been slow in getting over to see the puppies, but apparently it's worth the wait. Lambs are cuter than puppies!

Why are the lamb's ears so pointy and huge? That's very fucking cute. Like, REALLY cute. I find weirdness cute, what can I say.

Thanks for the puppy photos. I was experiencing withdrawal shakes.
