I had a thought yesterday as Cubby and I were wandering around the property, viewing the sheep, inspecting the garden, peeking at the little chick, sitting on the grass with the dogs . . . what a lucky, lucky boy he is to get to grow up here. Despite the cold house, the water supply issues, the seemingly endless chores to be done, I hope that Cubby's memories of his childhood will focus on the animals, swimming in the lake, eating corn straight from the garden, playing in the hay mow. Because really, this is a pretty incredible place to live. Especially for a child.
A good thing to remind myself of from time to time.

He will have a childhood full of adventure and nature that few kids today get to experience. He is a very luck boy indeed!
Yes, a wonderful life! And there is a little child in all of us. B.

the act of giving something up during Lent.
And, he is surrounded by relatives and growing up in a house where his grandmother lives! That's a blessing in this more mobile age. Mary in MN
sounds like a pretty darn blessed life for just about anybody :))
We moved a lot when I was a kid. But for my older brother and I, our favorite place we lived was a small ranch, which came with never-ending chores. It also came with deer peeking in our back door, a neighbors calf and lamb wandering onto our property mysteriously so my brother and I could make jokes that they were running away together because no one understood their love..., watching kittens and puppies and horses be born, chasing lizards over rocks, amusing sledding stories, etc...
Yea, Cubby will remember the chores. But he will likely remember the wonderfully fun things more. The life you are giving Cubby is a wonderful one for a child to have.
A lucky boy indeed.
Absolutely! And it will be a rare story to tell to all his friends who will probably have never even seen a sheep in real life or know what a hay mow is.
Lucky boy.
Yes, it is a wonderful life for a child! He'll have so many fabulous memories as he grows up. His friends will be envious.
